Commercial vehicles (vans, pickups, work trucks): likely eligible
Motor vehicles are Class 10 (30%). Vehicles that are not 'passenger vehicles' under the Income Tax Act, such as cargo vans and work pickups, are expected to qualify for immediate expensing. Passenger vehicles in Class 10.1 (over the cost cap) are excluded.
Examples of cargo vans, pickups and work trucks
- cargo vans for trades and couriers
- pickups used more than 50% for hauling goods or equipment
- service trucks with mounted equipment
Planning tip
The passenger-vehicle definition turns on seating, cargo use and business-use percentage in the year of purchase. Document the business use from day one.
